ABOUT US

The Parish Council is the first tier of local government and our Council consists of 7 members (Councillors) and the Clerk. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month, usually at the Loft, located above the village shop. All meetings are open to the public and we welcome your attendance and participation.

There are also several "Sub Committees" of the Council for which members of the community are welcome to join. Information on these meetings are also available on this website.

Information about current Councillors, minutes from previous meetings and forthcoming agendas are available here. You can also click on the name of each Councillor to see their Declaration and Acceptance of Office as well as their registered interests.

COUNCILLOR

I have lived in Brockweir for the past eight years with my partner and two children (aged 8  and 6), and before that I lived slightly further up the Wye valley in Penallt for a further 10 years, after having grown up on Dartmoor. I have always loved rural areas and I think the one in which I now live is particularly special. It is partly for that reason that I decided to join the Parish Council, to try and help protect what it is that makes it so special, but at the same time, being able to help ensure the greatest possible future for the parish was also important to me. I’d also love to try and get more people involved with the Parish Council. I currently run a company producing custom bicycle frames right here in the Wye Valley, and alongside cycling I also love to swim, cook, and generally try and make the most of where we live.

COUNCILLOR

I am aged 71 years and have, as of November this year, lived 40 of those years in BROCKWEIR.

My wife and I have three daughters, six grandchildren and a recent addition of a beautiful great granddaughter.  My interests throughout my life have been music and sport. I have played bass in numerous bands between 1960 and 2016 and I represented Wales in athletics (880yards) and cross country. I also had a football trial for Bolton Wanderers in1973 along with Sam Allardice and Peter Reid, both of whom went on to play for England. In the 70’s I was an elected member of the NHS staffs national committee, and negotiated at government level. I wished to be a member of the parish council to pay back some of the kindness received from the good people of this parish.

VICE CHAIRMAN

I have lived in the village (almost) my entire life, being born the very same day my parents moved to the village, where they also still remain. After spending nearly 10 years away for university and work, I returned to the village in 2012 with my wife. I joined the Council in order to do more for the community and in particular, to represent the younger generation in the parish. I work as a lawyer, and outside of this, I am involved with Brockweir CIC and enjoy walking my dogs and clay shooting.

CHAIR

Brockweir has always been my family’s home. Paddy & I moved into the parish permanently in 2011 after many years both abroad and then just outside London.  We have two daughters; one is a vet currently working in Australia, and the other works for a large consultancy in London. Having lived and worked in several different societies and countries, I strongly believe that much of the ‘can do’ attitude for which the British are famous has been eroded and, in these times of government austerity, it is important that we all work together as a community to improve our parish.

I have lived in the village all my life and attended Brockweir school and the grammar schools in Coleford. I married a local person Bryan Harris and had one son who is currently living in London-I've no idea why!  I am passionate about the area and very involved in many voluntary jobs with many different interests. I was widowed in 2012 and now live in my mother's cottage with an assortment of animals. I continue to work part-time just to completely fill up my week.
